Spetses Beaches, Greece: A Guide to Every Beach on Spetses

Spetses beaches, Saronic Gulf, Greece
Spetses, Saronic Gulf, Greece

Spetses beaches are small sand-and-pebble bays scattered around a pine-covered Argo-Saronic island, reached from Spetses Town by bus or by the quieter beach-boats from the port of Dapia. Agioi Anargiri on the west coast is the best sandy beach, and Zogeria is the one the locals call the most beautiful. Cars are banned on Spetses, so you reach most beaches by bus, by boat or on foot. For the wider island see the Spetses island guide, and for rooms see the Spetses hotels guide.

Agioi Anargiri Beach

Agioi Anargiri is the best and most popular sandy beach on Spetses. It lies on the west side of the island and is reached from Spetses Town by bus or by the special beach-boats that leave from the port. The buses to the beach can get very busy, while the beach-boats stay much quieter. At the beach a sea cave, the Bekiri cave, served as a hideout for islanders during the war with the Turks.

Agios Mamas (Spetses Town Beach)

Agios Mamas is the town beach of Spetses, right beside the capital. Agios Mamas has a pebble shore with some sand and shallow water. Accommodation, tavernas and bars all sit close to the beach. The beach is small, so it fills up quickly in high season.

Kaiki Beach

Kaiki Beach sits just outside Spetses Town, beside the Anargyrios & Korgialenios School. Kaiki is a popular, organised beach within easy walking distance of the capital, which makes it one of the closest beaches to Dapia.

Agia Marina Beach

Agia Marina lies 2 kilometers south of the harbour of Dapia in Spetses Town. The beach is surrounded by cypress and pine trees, and a cute little pink-and-white chapel stands beside it. It is mostly sandy, with some pebbles at the sea edge. Agia Marina has all facilities: tavernas, parasols and sunbeds for rent, and watersports. You reach it by bus or water taxi, and also on foot.

Xylokeriza Beach

Xylokeriza sits in the south-east of the island, on the route from Agia Marina to Agioi Anargiri, 8 kilometers from the new port of Dapia. You walk the last stretch to the beach along a path. There is one tavern on the beach, but it is less developed than most other beaches on Spetses, so bringing your own water is a good idea. Xylokeriza is a mixed pebble-and-sand beach.

Agia Paraskevi Beach

Agia Paraskevi lies on the west coast, 12 kilometers from the port of Dapia. It sits in a beautiful bay surrounded by trees that give some shade, and you can eat or drink at the tavernas here. The beach takes its name from the little church that stands nearby, and it consists of sand and pebbles. It is a short walk from Agioi Anargiri, which the bus reaches, and it stays quieter than its southern neighbour. Keen hikers can reach both beaches on foot from Spetses Town along a road through the centre of the island.

Vrellos Beach

Vrellos lies in the north-west of Spetses. A bus now runs to it from Spetses Town. The beach is made of pebbles and sand and is surrounded by pine trees. Sunbeds and umbrellas are for rent, along with the usual other facilities.

Ligoneri Beach

Ligoneri Beach lies a short distance northwest of Spetses Town. Ligoneri sits on the coast just beyond the edge of the capital, which keeps it within easy reach of the town.

Zogeria Beach

Zogeria is the favourite of the locals, who call it the most beautiful beach on the island. It lies in a bay and consists of sand and pebbles, with some rocks as well. A pretty white church and a taverna stand at Zogeria, the sea has a very pretty colour, and you can find shade under the trees. You walk the last stretch to the beach along a path, and the beach is also reachable by taxi-boat from Spetses Town.

Kosta and the mainland beach-boats

Boats cross from Spetses Town to the beach at Kosta, a quiet village opposite Spetses on the mainland. Watch which boat you board: regular boats carry a number of passengers, while the taxi boats are more expensive.

Spetses beaches FAQ

Spetses restricts private cars, so you get around the island by local bus, bicycle, water-taxi and horse-drawn carriage. You reach most beaches by bus, by beach-boat or on foot.

Is Spetses worth visiting?

Spetses is worth visiting for its sand-and-pebble beaches, pine-covered hills and car-free town. Spetses is a round Argo-Saronic island west of Hydra, a short boat trip from the mainland port of Kosta and within easy reach of Athens.

Is Spetses an expensive island to visit?
