Sifnos Hotels: Where to Stay on the Island

Sifnaika Konakia is a traditional settlement in Kamares, built in Sifnian architecture in a quiet corner, with rooms that recreate the old Sifnian homes and all the comforts for a restful stay. Kamares is a seaside village whose clean water holds a Blue Flag, and the sunset over the bay from the balcony is memorable.

Fassoulou Studios and Apartments stand in the village of Faros, about 5 minutes' walk from Fassoulou beach. There are 10 studios of 27 m2 and 2 apartments of 42 m2, each with a large veranda and views of the sea and the Chrissopigi Monastery. Faros is a cosy village with a supermarket and several tavernas, near the beaches of Faros and Glipho. Hans stayed here in May 2013 in a two-room apartment - a large room with kitchen and double bed, a smaller room with two singles, two bathrooms and a big veranda, fully furnished with TV, fridge, stove and air conditioning - on a very quiet, traffic-free spot; owner Jenny was very friendly.

Margado Apartments are built on a hill above the bay of Kamares, the port of Sifnos, 300 metres from the beach with a panoramic view of the bay. This cosy complex has various room types around an outdoor pool, with a snack bar, a lounge with satellite TV, a pool bar, a breakfast lounge, a barbecue and parking, and sits near the village restaurants, bars, shops and bus stop.

Morfeas Pension rents rooms in the middle of the bay of Kamares, close to the beach, with 8 double rooms and 4 apartments. All rooms have air conditioning, a fridge and TV, and the apartments add a kitchen; there is wireless internet, a washing machine and plenty of parking. Kamares is the largest village on Sifnos and the island's ferry port, set between two mountains with one of the longest beaches on the island - a sheltered, shallow bay that suits families with young children.

Hotel Windmill Bella Vista is built around an authentic 18th-century windmill on the edge of Artemonas, with sea and countryside views. It offers spacious studios and apartments with kitchenettes, each with a sea-view veranda or balcony, fridge, coffee machine, air conditioning, TV, internet, safe, private bathroom, hairdryer and mini bar. There is a cafe-bar with a terrace, a swimming pool with hydro-massage, a pool bar, an outdoor gym, a children's playground, and laundry and parking. Guests can also take a ride on the hotel's Arabian horse Manama or informal Greek lessons. Breakfast is included - a rich continental spread with homemade Sifnian cheese, sliced meats, juice, eggs and Sifnian sweets - served at the snack bar or on your veranda.

Meropi Rooms sit in a quiet spot in Kamares close to the beach, with 6 double rooms and 2 triple rooms. Every room has a balcony or veranda with a view over the whole bay of Kamares - the beach, harbour and village - and each has air conditioning, television and a fridge. From the rooms you walk straight into the harbour, with its potteries, tavernas, cafes and shops.

Hotel Boulis stands right on Kamares beach with views of the sea and mountains, in a quiet area away from the main road yet minutes from the port, bus stop, shops and tavernas. This family-run hotel has a large courtyard and garden and serves its own homemade liqueurs while the sun sets over the beach. Kamares beach holds a Blue Flag for safety and cleanliness.

To Oneiro is a small complex of just two apartments for 2 to 4 people, quietly set in the heart of Artemonas among the narrow streets, overlooking the Kastro and the mountains. Both apartments have air conditioning, a kitchen and television.

Klados Studios sit in a scenic cove 30 metres from the beach of Cherronisos, offering self-catering studios and apartments with air conditioning. Each has a balcony over the Aegean or the gardens, a kitchenette with hobs, fridge and oven, a TV and a private bathroom with shower; some add a washing machine. Fish tavernas and shops are within 30 metres, a bus stops 200 metres away, and Kamares port is 14 km away.
