Milos Hotels: Where to Stay on the Island

Soultana Apartments, Rooms and Studios sits in a quiet village on Milos, close to two beaches, a mini-market and several seaside tavernas. Run by Mrs Soultana Marinitsi and Anastasia, it has double and triple rooms, studios and two spacious two-bedroom apartments, suitable for solo travellers, couples, friends or families with children. All units are air-conditioned, with maid service two to three times a week and free guest parking across the road; since 2009 there is also covered underground parking and a swimming pool. Rates run about 30 to 140 euro depending on unit, season and length of stay. Breakfast is not included but is available across the street at a seaside spot from 8:00 to 10:30. Hans stayed here for five days in May 2011 and loved it: a peaceful spot with almost no passing traffic, waking to the sparrows and the sound of the sea, and very friendly people.

The Apollon Rooms look out over the Aegean with fine sunsets, built in traditional white and light-blue architecture. There is a private beach for swimming, a bar and a restaurant with sea views. Double and twin rooms come with modern comforts, each decorated with its own character.

The Heliotropio Hotel stands right on the sea in the village of Pollonia, near some of the island's best restaurants, with two studios and two apartments. It sits on a private beach looking over the bay, the boats, the village and one of Pollonia's two larger beaches; the large village beach is about a two-minute walk. The decor is tasteful and fully equipped, with a roof terrace for the view and the sunsets. Hans stayed here in May 2014 and rates it a real supertip.

Hotel Portiani stands in the harbour of Adamas in the centre of Milos town, combining easy access to the port and the beaches. Open all year, this two-storey hotel has rooms and suites; first-floor rooms have private balconies with sea or village views, and eight second-floor rooms share a large veranda over the bay. There is a lounge, a cafe-bar and a breakfast area, and rooms with a sea view and breakfast can be booked.

Dionysis Hotel sits in the heart of Adamas, 130 metres from the beach and close to the port, restaurants and shops. This small complex of 7 studios offers a free port transfer and an air-conditioned bar lounge with satellite TV. Each room has a balcony, bathroom, satellite TV, air conditioning and a fully equipped kitchen with fridge and mini-bar, with daily cleaning.

Galini Apartments is a small complex near the sandy beach of Pollonia (Apollonia), 10 km from Milos town. Built in white and light-blue traditional style, it has rooms and apartments with a private bathroom, air conditioning, balcony and TV; the apartments add a kitchenette with fridge. Pollonia is the island's second port, linked by ferry to Kimolos, with traditional seaside tavernas and bars nearby.

Semiramis Hotel stands close to the centre of Adamas, within walking distance of the beach. All rooms have a private bathroom, TV, air conditioning and fridge. There is a garden bar with free WiFi and breakfast, and a free transfer to and from the port; the location is close to restaurants and bars.

The Aphrodite Hotel sits in a quiet spot in Adamas near the beach, 500 metres from the port and 100 metres from the tree-shaded beach of Lagada, with the beach of Papikinou on the far side of the village. Apartments are spacious, with air conditioning, TV, a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, oven and microwave, a large bathroom and a living room, plus a balcony on the upper floors or a ground-floor patio. Cleaning is daily and linen is changed every three days; parking is 30 metres away, and the hotel's own minibus can collect guests from the port or airport.

Nefeli Sunset Studios is a small, family-run complex in Pollonia on Milos, built in traditional Cycladic style right where the waves break. Rooms have a balcony or veranda with a sea view, private bathroom, air conditioning, TV, hot plate, kettle, coffee machine, fridge and hairdryer, and the balconies, terraces and garden catch the sunset. Daily boats leave Pollonia pier for Kimolos in about 30 minutes; tavernas, bars, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets are a short distance away, and the bus station is 300 metres from the studios.

Aeolis Hotel stands in the heart of picturesque Adamas, 250 metres from the port of Milos and close to the bus stop, nightlife and shops. Rooms have a sitting area, private bathroom, fridge, hairdryer, telephone, air conditioning and colour TV with a balcony; a few have a kitchenette and two are adapted for guests with disabilities. Public transport reaches all parts of the greater Milos area.

Alexandros Village looks out over Adamas from a hillside 1 km away, combining traditional Greek architecture with modern decor. This family-run complex has tastefully decorated rooms with spacious modern bathrooms, a garden, barbecue facilities and a breakfast, plus a free transfer service and free private parking, giving a peaceful base with easy access to the local beaches.

The Capetan Georgantas Hotel stands 200 metres from the beach in Adamas, near shops, restaurants, bars and attractions. Open all year, this small hotel has a swimming pool and a snack bar for breakfast and drinks. All rooms have air conditioning, fridge, TV, hairdryer, safe and balcony.

Filoxenia Apartments is a family-run complex 500 metres from the centre of Adamas and the port. Each self-catering apartment has a modern kitchenette with utensils, air conditioning and TV, and there is an airport shuttle service. Adamas has many beaches, tourist facilities, nightlife, churches and museums.

Milos Hotel sits 60 metres from the sea, 3 minutes from the port and 4 km from the airport. All rooms have a TV, minibar, air conditioning, fridge and balcony. Lagada and Papikinos beaches are 600 metres away, and there is a breakfast area, a lobby and free on-site parking. Milos is best known for the statue Venus de Milo and for its many beaches.
